Comparison Shopping Reviews Community Blog Reef Clubs Forums Wiki Gallery Home. Hello Everyone, I'm currently in the process of starting a company that sells coral frags online. I'm joining these forums in hopes of meeting new people in the hobby as well as sharing and gaining knowledge from the group. A little about me I purchased my first 12 gallon saltwater aquarium about five years ago and since then, I have expanded to a total of over gallons worth of aquariums in my house.

I started looking online and found a low-cost saltwater setup that I went ahead and purchased. Long story short, I outgrew one tank after another and have constantly upgraded over the last several years with no end in sight! Not long ago I started to realize that some of my corals were overrunning their tanks and rather than upgrading again, I decided to purchase a couple frag tanks and get a business license.

I just finished building a custom frag tank setup DIY posted on my website and I'm currently in the process of setting up a website and getting the frag tanks cycled. My goal here is to disseminate some of the knowledge I've learned over the course of several years and several tanks Nice to meet you.

Thanks for pointing that out I'll have it changed. As I said, still working on getting everything setup! Welcome to the site. You may wish to try your hand at selling as an individual for awhile and get the hang of shipping and customer service, as you can sell quite a few and remain a hobbiest. Your website looks very proffesional and your frag tank doesn't. There are some websites with top of the line systems that post pictures of their setups to impress potential customers and there are just as many sites that don't post pictures of their systems.

Some sites just let the quality of the corals be the selling point. I'm not saying you can't successfully grow corals in your system but I think from a buyers perspective, it's not a positive selling point.

Hi Jadinop and Jnicho, you both bring up great points! That is a business decision I have been struggling with for a while now I've done the math and I'm reasonably certain that I can provide coral frags for slightly less than most of the competitor's rates, but to do that, I have to minimize overhead as well.

By setting things up the way I did, Training for stockbrokers greatly reduced the startup and maintenance costs and can pass that savings along to customers in the end.

If I'm providing corals for cheaper than the competition and making money selling coral frags giving a reason as to why, I'm worried that customers will start to question the quality, health, and coloration of the corals.

But on the flipside, like you mentioned, if I'm showing pictures of everything, it may be a turn off to other customers. Since there are already many other larger coral companies, I need something to set this business apart in order to help build clientele.

One obvious factor is a lower price which I'm primarily focused on, but I'm hoping How-To articles and other resources will further help draw potential customers in. So, buy stock icici direct that you know all that, what are your standpoints? As for shipping, I haven't gotten around to getting it on the website yet, but I do have a plan there as well at least for the greater Los Angeles area.

I live in a city in LA where a lot of people commute through the county for work. I've already talked to several fish stores who are interested in purchasing coral and have found friends that work near these fish stores. As far as the rest of the country goes though, it will be regular shipping.

I'll probably lose on the price front there since I don't have the same volume discounts as the competitors, but hopefully the reduced price on coral will help to even things out. Welcome Mike, well as you can see there are a lot of people that will help you know what your customers will expect.

You have to find and understand your niche and than when was the stock market crash of 1987 the best at publicly traded tech companies it.

Opening the doors to forums like this will provide you with more knowledge from people that have been there and done that five years before you thought of being there and doing that.

Everyone looks for savings but I don't know any coral hounds that won't sniff out quality, value and customer service and pay for it even if it is not the cheapest. Internet can be a making money selling coral frags powerfull store front but that also means your customer is always purchasing a live creature sight unseen and so again personal confidence in the vendor is HUGE. Its critical that you appear BIG and act big until you actually forex articles ezine I thik the stories are good There are always tons of cons to start out Have you done an actual business plan?

Are you a licensed reseller? Can you purchase directly from the numerous wholesalers who are already operating in CA? Why would an LFS buy corals from you when they can purchase forbes money makers list from the same wholesalers without paying your markup?

Higher volume means lower prices. Lower volume means higher prices. I don't see how you are possibly going to be competitive in your area with the majority of the corals sold throughout the US landing in CA from overseas. Do you have access to purchasing dry goods salt, bulbs, other equipment at wholesale cost? If you are buying at retail or just get a small discount from an LFS than I can already tell you that your expenses will eat up any potential profit.

I understand your desire to share your experiences with the Articles but looking at your setup, I have to question your experience. You really need to remove those pics from your website. There are numerous problems that I can see with your frag system: The lights are way too high and poorly hung. Your plumbing choices make it look like you've never even setup a tank before.

Your sump is undersized, you are going to have a microbubble problem if you don't run filter socks. I don't recognize that protein skimmer but it looks poorly designed to me.
