How about a real cash economy server? I can enable people to own stores, malls, houses, apartments and other things and they could create their own small businesses.

I think it would be a cool idea to allow players to make some bucks while playing money would be delivered via paypall per player request on the website when they reach a certain minimum balance.

Of course that players would be able o make money by selling to other players, so that the server will not incur in financial losses, instead it will be a platform that allows players to trade.

No need to be rude but i feel like this is not a really good idea, due to the fact that if you want money you should make your own server and that's your business. Obviously no one would make that investment. Overall, i feel like this isn't an all bright idea.

If you are planning on selling people the in game money I think that would be against the eula even if you don't keep any of the money yourself. This is a very idealistic idea.

But I'm not an idealistic person. Looking past the idealism, the idea has a lot of problems. While this isn't entirely accurate Where do you get the money to keep allowing this system?

For each person who can earn the amount to trade in, you'd need to have the money to provide, and the more people that use your server, the more you'd need. Plus the cost of getting a server hosted in the first place.

There doesn't seem to be any money in it for you, but it'd drain your bank real quickly unless you're some sort of millionaire. Even if that's technically true, the problem is usually when you're selling in-game currency or items in exchange for money. However, he is correct. You couldn't have any financial gain from the money on your end Such as them paying for any of it , as that is against the EULA.

The biggest problem I see with this idea, though, is that it assumes everyone will play fair.

That's not how humans work. Humans will do tons of things to exploit the server and abuse the system. Any bugs that slip through will be heavily abused until they're resolved And I doubt many people will tell you about them. People will set up bot accounts to farm for extra money without any work needed. They'll hack to raise money ludicrously fast. And there's simply no way to stop that when the motivation to continue is real-world currency. I'm glad people support my dragon raising.

Could I ask for assistance with this one now? Check out my dragon scroll http: I may get more dragons later. I agree with Heric. And while I do consider myself an idealist, I'm something of a cynical one. Basically, the main problem in my eyes is that nobody could fund this.

You would have to dish out tons of cash to just about every player on the server, but where would that money come from. Even people with really good jobs would likely fail to fund this server, giving every player money, and live a decent lifestyle. And let's face it, if this ever happened, the server would be wildly popular. As Heric said, people would get bots to farm money.

It would become a completely horrible server filled with people who don't even want to play and just want to farm money with their bots, possibly the biggest server in the world.

The in-game currency has to come from somewhere or you'll get galloping inflation and the real world currency has to come from somewhere. So I was assuming that the players would be buying the in-game currency, which is ok as long as the only things that can be bought with it are cosmetic, non game changing, items, if the players are running their own shops you have no control over that, people would sell diamonds, potions, enchanted armor and such.

In theory you could have a system where you are sharing your advertizing revenue?

And DDosing a server according to hackers is't a difficult thing to do. I've been on servers with tons of hackers, and those specific types of hackers can most likely shut down or even just destroy a server completely.

Overall you would just be investing with no profit. I agree this wouldn't work as it simply has to many holes but as far as the money goes it seems straight forward in that it is real money. Diablo3 had a system similar to this and they had to remove it due to gold farmers ruining the economy. What I mean by it's real money is that it only has as much money as players put in. The real problem here would be how to have a bank account that could hold, withdraw and deposit funds on such a scale.

The economy fluctuates but it is still relatively stable. Maybe look to it for notes. Plus pretty sure your local law enforcement at least in the US will view this as a money laundering scheme.

Do not even attempt this idea. It has been a while since I last ventured over there so things might have changed, but Second Life had a similar economy that remained pretty stable to the US dollar.

Farming was never much of an issue though. For the OP I don't see how this idea would be work for a Minecraft server in a legal or economic sense.
